What Is A GEMBOREE?
A GEMBOREE is a celebration of all things gem related. Whether you're a seasoned collector, an aspiring lapidary artist, or simply curious about the beauty hidden beneath the Earth's surface, this event has something for everyone. The atmosphere crackles with excitement as vendors showcase their dazzling arrays of gemstones, minerals, and fossils, captivating visitors with their natural brilliance.
About GEMBOREE 2024
A Festival of Gems, Crystals, Minerals, Fossils and Jewellery, the GEMBOREE is an annual event where Gem Club members, enthusiasts, and dealers from all around Australia get together to promote the crafts and skills of lapidary (gemstone cutting).
A highlight of the Easter Weekend is the display of entries from people across Australia and overseas competing in both the National Lapidary Competition and the International Faceting Challenge. Everyday Aussies have created beautiful pieces of silver jewellery, faceted amethyst, sapphire, and Zircons, wonderfully cut tiger eye, opal and other precious stones which are on display for everyone to appreciate.
The GEMBOREE is held each year in a different state of Australia and in 2024 it is once again South Australia’s turn to host this exciting event. South Australian events are well known for their friendliness and the warm welcome all visitors receive.
2024 will be a particularly special event as we celebrate the 60th GEMBOREE to be held in Willunga South Australia. Over the Easter weekend in 2024, 29th March to 1st April, Willunga Recreation Park will host over 200 campers and welcome members of the public to come and experience the wonders of the natural world of Gems and Minerals.
This is a fantastic opportunity to bring your family to explore the displays, purchase their own gems / jewellery from Dealers both inside the Festival Hall and on the oval, watch demonstrations of gem cutting, silversmithing and wire wrapping. With local Gem and Mineral club members on hand to introduce you to the hobby you will be sure to gain an insight into a great family activity.
Encouraging an interest in the natural world with opportunities to learn hands on crafts and explore the great outdoors, this hobby enables family outings and shared interests. We will have food vendors there to feed your hunger pangs and coffee to enjoy as you wander through the many displays and traders.
GEMBOREE will be open to the public Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday from 9am – 5pm and on Easter Monday from 9am – 12 noon.
Gemstone Secrets
Australia, known for its breathtaking landscapes and unique wildlife, also holds a sparkling secret: its vibrant gemstone community. Each year, gem enthusiasts from far and wide flock to the Land Down Under to experience the exhilarating joy of a Gemboree.
